Did you know that charter schools now educate roughly 446,600 — or 8% — of Texas’ nearly 5.5 million public school students? Charter school enrollment has grown over the past three decades. According to Texas 2036, last year it grew by 2.4% — less than in previous years.

Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week, and we teamed up with Verdant EDU to host a Teacher Appreciation Happy Hour at Vibras. We enjoyed great conversations, plus tacos and drinks to show educators how much they mean to us. Last week, Inga Cotton, our Founder and Executive Director, participated in a televised town hall on News 4 and FOX San Antonio about hot topics in education, including school closures, staff cuts, education savings accounts (also known as vouchers), and school safety. The panel members included Wally McCampbell, Chief of Police at North East ISD; Ed Garza, trustee at San Antonio ISD; and Jamilah Nailor Thompson, the parent of students at Judson Middle School, which is closing this summer.
