💚Enjoying the GREEN that a Michigan summer brings💚
Away for a bit….taking some time to be with family! I’ll be back in a few weeks to make sure Printmaking Camp is the best ever!!!
(PS there are a couple spots left - you don’t want to miss this one)

These birds are so whimsical and fun to watch.
If you are in Michigan, I hope you can catch them near the lake. If you are in San Diego - there are Western Snowy Plovers on Coronado

The Great Lakes have unique signs of summer and one of them just sprang awake. Little cotton balls with legs are running along the shorelines, officially marking the first hatchlings of this season’s Great Lakes Piping Plovers.

✨DRAWING CAMP✨
Wow! I am blown away at the awesome work and attention of these kiddos - in the first ever art camp!!!
We have been doing loads of drawing exercises and projects to train our eyes (and brain) to think like an artist! We’ve been using different methods to emphasize drawing what we see….right in front of us.
In addition to leaving and improving art foundations like composition, line variety, accuracy, shading, and more….we have played some really fun creativity games, and done loads of practice in our sketchbooks (aka experimental space).
It’s not over! We have one last day - but I wanted to share some of their amazing work.
Missed this camp? There’s another one for the same age group in July…..and that one will focus on ✨Printmaking Techniques✨! It will be boatloads of fun!
Register here to snag your spot (classes are very small…which is what makes them so special)

✨Peace. Connection. Honored. Celebrated✨
The intention behind ☀️Sun-Stitched Mom’s Morning☀️ was to create a calm and happy space for a few women before the chaos of summer ensues.
“I feel so special…so treated.” -one of the moms who attended.
“This is so relaxing.” -another mom
We watched the hummingbirds, sipped special drinks and homemade pastries, and had uninterrupted conversation while repetitively stitching.
Moms make sure everyone is taken care of. The irony is even during this workshop, these lovely women felt this was a morning for them …they were still creating something special for their kids.
This is the magical ripple effect that means to much to me, at Curious Plover Studio. When you’re here, I hope you are able to set down the weight, quiet the noise. And when you leave, I hope it is easy to carry some levity, joy, and goodwill to others.
We make things with our hands and hearts. And we put beautiful, heartfelt pieces back into the world around us.
I’m thinking maybe I should offer more “mom morning” workshops!!! This was so incredible.
PS I have 2 tote bags filled and ready to gift to your student! Celebrate their end of year…and keep them busy with all sorts of fun! Message me to claim yours!!!

✨🍕 S A T U R D A Y A R T R E P O R T🍕✨
This week felt like a finale….like a celebration!
With summer around the corner, and art camps on deck - this was the last Saturday Art Session for awhile.
We read a super fun and silly book called “Secret Pizza Party” by Adam Rubin and Daniel Salmieri (the same guys who wrote and illustrated “Dragons Love Tacos”). The story is about a raccoon who absolutely loves pizza, but always gets chased off with brooms. A secret pizza party is the answer to finally enjoying his beloved pizza. It’s goofy and always good for a giggle.
Through pizza “toppings” we talked about pattern…specifically, radial pattern. We used foam to create raised surfaces on our “printing plate” aka pizza dough. We had an absolute blast rolling out the paint with brayers, pressing the print - and revealing the magic!
I love printmaking, because there is a very specific moment of “awe” when the kids see how their plate transfers ink/plate to create their art the moment the paper lifts!!!
In addition to their amazing pizza prints - kids made tiny pizzas to give to a friend, family member or stranger. And I gave them each a “pizza my heart.”
Making + giving is the secret recipe of Curious Plover Studio.
We make things with our hands and heart….in an effort to add beauty and love to the world around us.

✨DRAWING CLUB✨
Holy moly! Life has been moving fast - and I have neglected to brag on the Drawing Club kids!
We have been kicking off our weekends by…
✏️ eating cookies while watching birds, while practicing drawing techniques
✏️exploring new, profession-grade art media
✏️improving skills like shading, perspective, composition, and drawing from observation
✏️enjoying the fresh air in the quiet studio space (a grounding, and predictable way to equalize before the weekend)
Middle schoolers are so much fun! And this is such an absolutely lovely group. I always look forward to Friday afternoons.
If you missed this Drawing Club series - but it sounds like the vibe your kid would enjoy - save your spot in Drawing Camp this summer!!! (July 1-5)
