Community in motion 🌷🫂

We’re grateful to the for the opportunity to be part of the Step by Step Walk event - connecting with individuals, families, and professionals across the Parkinson’s community.

From walking alongside participants to gathering in rhythm through our drum circle, the day was a reminder that connection can take many forms, and that everyone can participate in their own way.

The Step by Step Walk brings people together through movement and community, values that extend beyond the event and into programs like AudAbility, where music therapy supports voice, movement, cognition, and connection for individuals living with Parkinson’s.

“When the music starts, he smiles, sings along, and the entire room feels uplifted.”
-Spouse of Person with Parkinson’s

Reach out to learn more about AudAbility or to explore partnership opportunities supporting Parkinson’s care through music therapy. 🎶

During World Music Therapy Week, the theme “Connecting Borders: Creating Networks and Enhancing Identities through Music Therapy” highlights how music therapy brings people together across cultures, strengthens networks, and supports identity through meaningful musical experiences.

Borders aren’t just geographical.

They can exist between languages, cultures, experiences, and moments of change - where connection can feel uncertain or out of reach.

Music moves through those spaces in a way words sometimes cannot.

Not by replacing language - but by creating something shared.

Through music therapy, people are able to engage, express, and relate in ways that transcend difference - strengthening relationships and supporting a sense of identity and belonging.

At MusicWorx, this is where we see the impact most clearly - through real people, real moments, and real connection.

Continue the conversation and explore with us.

Many music therapists feel drawn to neurological populations and still quietly wonder if they’re ready.

Working with Parkinson’s often calls for flexibility, presence, and skilled communication in the moment. Symptoms can fluctuate, communication may change over time, and tasks that were once automatic can require more effort, patience, and planning.

Success in neurological work isn’t just about technique - it’s about how you communicate, adapt, and collaborate in real time.

Our newest MusicWorx Academy article explores three communication skills every music therapist needs for working with neurological populations, including Parkinson’s.

Parkinson’s can change how the body moves and how communication feels.

Speech may feel quieter or less reliable. Movement may not respond the way it used to. Tasks that were once automatic can take more effort, patience, and planning.

At MusicWorx, we see how deeply these changes affect individuals living with Parkinson’s - and the care partners walking alongside them.

Music therapy can support:
• Vocal strength and clarity
• Breath support
• Mobility and coordination
• Emotional expression and stress regulation
• Connection with others

We recently shared a new article exploring how music therapy supports communication, confidence, and dignity for people living with Parkinson’s.
