Today commemorates the day the final slaves in the U.S. were freed by the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth marks the country’s second independence day and has been celebrated for more than 160 years. Beginning in 2021, it also became recognized as a federal holiday.
Juneteenth is a day for learning and discussion, for gathering and celebration, and for reflecting on the promise of freedom and what it means today.

San Diego is a proud fútbol city, and we love our sports here at GSSD! Good luck to the U.S. Soccer Men's National Team as they start their World Cup bid today. ⚽

And, special shout out to the three Latinas on the referee squad: Katia García, Sandra Ramírez, and Tatiana Guzmán. The 2026 Men's World Cup is featuring women referees for only the second time, and there are three women in the group. Congratulations to these women on breaking glass ceilings and showing our Girl Scouts what is possible! 💪

Join our team! We're looking for an attentive, enthusiastic salesperson to join the Girl Scouts San Diego team as a part-time retail sales associate. You'll work at our Balboa Campus and Escondido Program Center stores and operate our mobile store, Miss Daisy! Our GSSD National Council Delegates* need your feedback! Join us on Wednesday, June 17 for a virtual town hall to weigh in on the proposals our delegates will vote on in July. These proposal topics cover solicitation of donations for Bronze and Silver Awards, determining the level at which the National Board can set dues, and limitations on licensing for Girl Scout branded food products. Adult members are invited to join at 5:30 p.m. and youth members at 6:30 p.m. Do you have thoughts? Visit the link in our bio to join the town hall or receive a form to provide your feedback.

*National Council Delegates (NCDs) serve as Girl Scouts San Diego’s group of voting members—comprised of ten NCDs and five alternates—at the National Council Session. They engage and gather feedback from Girl Scout members in our council, learn about proposals, and take action to be the voice of Girl Scouts San Diego during the National Council Session. They then bring back information to share locally.

Today, our beloved Camp Winacka turns 50 years old!

Over the years, Winacka has been a summer home for thousands of girls, giving them a space to escape from the rhythms of everyday life, learn new skills, meet life-long friends, and dive into new adventures. In a few weeks, the newest batch of campers will arrive to make their own camp memories.

We're introducing a new council-wide communication platform! Rallyhood is especially made with Girl Scouts in mind and will become our centralized hub for troop communication, camp photos, council updates, and more. You'll get to collaborate with other troops and customize your experience so you see the Girl Scout news you care about most.

As we roll out this new platform, troop and service unit leaders are beginning to receive access to their rallies this week and soon will be able to invite troop members and families to join! Caregivers and families, keep an eye out for those invites. Our summer camp 2026 families will also soon begin to receive invites to camp rallies where you will see updates, photos, and more this summer.
