SDSU School of Art and Design

SDSU is one of the event hosts in the upcoming SoCal SoCraft event series this July!

Explore San Diego through the institutions, artists, craftspeople, and designers who make our craft community. Each weekend in July, a different neighborhood will be activated through interactive craft programming. Enjoy exhibitions, tours, workshops, demonstrations, make-and-takes, and shop artisan crafts at the most vibrant craft spots in the region. In conjunction with Handwork 2026, a Craft in America Initiative.

We would like to recognize Professor Yin Yu, who received the Most Influential Faculty Award for her mentorship of outstanding student, Yewon Shin, as well as the Artistic and Creative Activities Award from the Division of Research and Innovation. Congratulations!

Join us on Saturday, June 13 at 5:00 PM at Athenaeum Art Center to hear from the artists in the 21st Annual Art and Design Advocacy Council Exhibition about their practice and journey as artists.

Congratulations to Sarah Garcia and Yewon Shin, named the 2026 Outstanding Students from SDSU’s School of Art and Design!

🌟 Sarah Garcia, Outstanding Graduate Student, is a mother and artist from San Diego, CA. She works with various craft materials and processes, with a focus in clay, fiber, printmaking, sculpture and installation. Her current work is centered around dialogues and collaborations with her daughter. With clay, she makes vessels that are informed by her conversations with her daughter and their investigations into memories, questions about inherited identities, pasts and patterns, and reworking and reimagining their future.

🌟 Yewon Shin, Outstanding Undergraduate Student, studied Interior Architecture at the SDSU School of Art and Design and is graduating this spring. She has been a Dean's List honoree since Spring 2024 and has showcased her work in the Interior Architecture Student Exhibition and SDSU Student Symposium. As a student assistant for the interior architecture major, she's as invested in her community as she is in her craft.

The Spring MFA Thesis Exhibitions, opened today, April 27 in the University Art Gallery. Featuring work from graduating MFA candidates:
