Ten years ago, our community lost 49 souls to hate.

They were friends. Siblings. Daughters. Sons. Partners. Dreamers. Dancers. People who gathered in a place that was meant to be safe, to celebrate who they were and who they loved.

Today, we remember them.

We remember the light they brought into this world.
We remember the love they shared.
We remember the lives they should still be living.

The flame of one candle cannot replace 49 lives, but it reminds us that even in darkness, love endures, community endures, and hope endures.

At HRC San Diego, we honor their memory by continuing the work, protecting our community, defending our rights, and building a future where every LGBTQ+ person can live freely and safely.

We continue.

Another Pride by the Beach is in the books, and what a beautiful day it was.

Year after year, HRC San Diego continues to show up, stand together, and celebrate the strength, resilience, and joy of our LGBTQ+ community. In 2026, that commitment feels more important than ever. At a time when our rights and our communities continue to face challenges, gathering together in pride, visibility, and solidarity matters.

Today was filled with laughter, conversations, new connections, familiar faces, and the reminder that we are strongest when we stand together.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, signed up to volunteer, became a member, shared their story, or simply came by to say hello. We are grateful to be part of this incredible community and honored to continue this work alongside all of you.

Come find us on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 12 PM to 6 PM in Oceanside. Stop by the HRC San Diego booth, say hi, grab some swag, and learn how to get involved in the fight for LGBTQ+ equality.
Pride is joy. Pride is action. Pride is community.

Today, HRC San Diego honors Harvey Milk Day with heavy hearts as our city mourns the Muslim siblings whose lives were taken this week in a racially motivated attack.

Harvey Milk’s legacy reminds us that visibility, solidarity, and courage matter, especially in moments of fear and grief. He believed in building a world where every person could live openly, safely, and with dignity, no matter who they are, who they love, how they worship, or where they come from.

That work is not separate from the fight against hate. It is the same fight.

As we remember Harvey’s life and legacy, we also stand with San Diego’s Muslim community and all communities targeted by violence, racism, and bigotry. Our grief must move us toward action, toward protection, toward deeper solidarity, and toward a city where every family can feel safe.

May Harvey’s legacy continue to call us forward, with courage, compassion, and hope. 🏳️‍🌈💙

Today, on International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, we’re reminded that at the heart of this work is something so simple:

We just want to live.
To love who we love.
To be who we are.
To exist safely, openly, and fully.

No one should have to fight this hard for dignity, safety, joy, or belonging. But until every LGBTQ+ person can move through the world without fear, we keep showing up.

For our trans siblings.
For our q***r youth.
For our elders who paved the way.
For every person still trying to be free.

Live and let live should not be controversial. It should be the bare minimum.
