What makes a great summer camp experience? ☀️🎨

We asked Meryl and Val to share what camp at The Artist Outpost is all about- and why they love being part of it.

Our summer camps are designed to give kids a place to explore, make new friends, get creative, and spend their days making something with their hands. One week features Art Camp, where campers dive into painting, drawing, collage, and mixed media. The following week is Pottery Camp, focused on wheel throwing, handbuilding, and clay projects.

Every camp day is filled with creativity, encouragement, and plenty of opportunities for kids to try something new!

Meet our instructor, Jules! 🎨

Jules teaches Portraiture, Figure Drawing, and Drawing 101 at The Artist Outpost, helping artists of all skill levels build confidence, strengthen their observational skills, and develop their own creative style.

Whether you’re picking up a pencil for the first time or looking to refine your technique, Jules creates a welcoming and supportive environment to learn, experiment, and grow as an artist!

Coming up this summer, Jules will also be leading our 6-week Plein Air Pastel Drawing Series, where students will explore the beauty of Ocean Beach and Sunset Cliffs through outdoor drawing. Together, you’ll learn to capture light, color, atmosphere, and coastal landscapes using soft pastels- all while drawing from life in some of San Diego’s most inspiring locations.

Our Pottery Membership at The Artist Outpost gives you the space, tools, and studio time to keep creating in our Ocean Beach studio- whether you’re into wheel throwing, handbuilding, or a little of both.

Membership includes:
• 24 hours of studio time each month
• 25 lbs of clay
• Access to tools, glazes, and kiln firings
• Daytime + evening studio availability throughout the week
• Monthly membership perks like workshop discounts, buddy passes, and more.

Open studio sessions are designed for independent work, with flexible scheduling available around class times.
