When tragedy struck the Islamic Center of San Diego, SDSU College of Education alumna Halima Said ('17, '20) turned grief into action. One family. Two graduates. Nearly 600 miles apart.

Twin brothers Joaquin and Diego Cervantes-González graduated from two different The California State University campuses on the same weekend. On Saturday, Joaquin crossed the stage at California State University, Chico, earning a degree in business administration and preparing to begin a full-time role in financial planning. Less than 24 hours later, his family traveled to San Diego to celebrate his twin brother Diego’s graduation from San Diego State University with a degree in kinesiology and plans to pursue a career in nursing.

The weekend was full of celebration and served as a powerful milestone for the family.
