The Nonprofit Institute's office is closed today in observance of Juneteenth, celebrating the strength, leadership, and contributions of Black communities and honoring the ongoing work of advancing justice, equity, and belonging.
As we reflect on the significance of this day, we invite you to join our community partner, Paddle for Peace, for their 6th Annual Juneteenth Summer Kickoff BBQ on June 20th at La Jolla Shores Beach for a day honoring Black joy, culture, and freedom with community. đ đ đď¸

Beach advisories and closures are issued when water testing finds that the contamination in the water exceeds public health standards. In 2025, 742 advisories were issued in San Diego County, the highest in recent years. While sewageârelated closures from the Tijuana River declined compared to 2024, impacts remain historically high.
Clean beaches support public health, outdoor recreation, local businesses, and the regionâs quality of life. They also serve as a natural âcool zoneâ during heat waves, providing relief for residents when temperatures rise. San Diegans exhibit a strong level of concern for our beaches, with 65% of residents reporting feeling âalarmedâ or âconcernedâ about local beach water quality. As San Diego faces ongoing challenges from pollution, flooding, and rising sea levels, protecting our coastal resources remains essential.
