Sunnyside Elementary PTA

Throughout the summer months, student artwork from Sunnyside’s art and literary publication, The Ray, can be seen out in the wild around town in the Glen Park and Sunnyside neighborhoods. The remainder of the art pieces will be featured on the walls inside Sunnyside beginning in the fall.

A generous grant from The Glen Park Association helped make this delightful art exhibit possible. Take a look below at the art locations to help plot your stroll around the neighborhoods. High fives all around for these creative Sunnyside artists!

As we celebrate our graduating 5th graders, AAPAG is proud to honor each student with a Kente stole—a symbol rich in history, culture, achievement, and pride.

Kente cloth originated with the Akan people of Ghana, West Africa, and has become a powerful symbol of excellence, leadership, perseverance, and community. Today, Kente stoles are worn by graduates to recognize their hard work, honor their journey, and celebrate the support of their families and communities.

Each color carries a special meaning:

💛 Gold – Achievement, success, and excellence
💚 Green – Growth, hope, prosperity, and new beginnings
🖤 Black – Strength, wisdom, resilience, and leadership
🤍 White – Peace, purity, joy, and spiritual strength

For our students, the Kente stole represents more than graduation—it symbolizes overcoming challenges, believing in themselves, and carrying forward a legacy of courage, determination, and greatness.

AAPAG is honored to be part of this special celebration and to recognize these shining stars and their families. We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished and excited to see the bright futures that await them.

Kids love the garden 🌱

This Monday, nearly 75 kids joined in the fun:

Kinder & 1st graders were excited to see the seed box refilled and can’t wait to water their seedlings.

2nd & 3rd graders formed a “trash club,” digging up lost tools, plastic dinosaurs (??), and plenty of surprises.

4th & 5th graders watched a beetle take on an orb weaver through magnifying viewers.

What a beautiful way to celebrate 🌈✨

All the Sunnyside grades came together this past Friday to create a rainbow flag, and wrapped up the festivities with a dance party

April 21 Sunnyside held a Pink Wave anti bullying event during morning meeting. Students were encouraged to wear pink on this day as a way of showing that everyone can wear whatever makes them feel good; pink is for everyone! 👚

Huge thanks to our amazing garden clean-up crew! 🌿 Families showed up and made a big impact—the garden is now refreshed, beautiful, and ready for springtime learning.

On Saturday, the team tackled it all: cutting back overgrown plants, trimming large tree limbs, reviving neglected pots, fixing a tricky hose setup, defining the digging area, weeding like pros, caring for the raised beds, and organizing storage spaces 💚
