🧠 IQ + EQ Advantage Camp 💕
DAY 2

Today was all about flexibility—mental flexibility, emotional flexibility, and social flexibility.

We explored the idea that one situation can be approached in many different ways, and that getting “stuck” doesn’t mean something is wrong—it simply means the brain hasn’t tried another path yet.

Through games and group activities, students practiced generating alternative viewpoints with positive mindset, adjusting their rigid thinking, and noticing how their actions affect others with mind map association and visual arts. This introduces systems thinking—the understanding that choices ripple outward and influence the group.

We also tackled the 5-step Cognitive Behavioral system with a spin wheel that will be coming home with the students at the end of the camp.

1. Stop
2. Calm
3. Think
4. Feel
5. Act

We ended the day with making a 3-D Reverse Perspective artwork, which we will continue to finish tomorrow.

From an educational psychology lens, all these supports:

- Cognitive flexibility
- Frustration tolerance
- Problem-solving under stress

How you can support this at home:
When your child encounters resistance or frustration, try:

“What’s another way your brain could try this?”
“What happened when you changed your idea?”

Thank you for reinforcing curiosity over perfection and processes over results.

🧠 IQ + EQ Advantage Camp 💕

DAY 1

Today, students began the camp by learning a foundational self-regulation principle: calm bodies allow access to thinking brains.

Using developmentally appropriate activities grounded in neuroscience and executive functioning research, students practiced pausing, slowing their bodies, and noticing their internal state before reacting.

This supports access to the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for impulse control, planning, and flexible thinking.

We introduced the THINK → FEEL → ACT framework through the Empower Empathy™ curriculum, emphasizing that feelings provide information—but do not dictate behavior.

Leadership was framed today as self-leadership: the ability to regulate oneself before responding.

🧠 What this builds

- Emotional regulation
- Impulse control
- Metacognitive awareness
- Psychological safety for learning

🏠 How to support at home

- “Let’s calm your body first so your brain can help.”
- Offer short pauses before problem-solving.
- Avoid lecturing during emotional flooding.

Calm kids don’t succeed.
Kids who can THINK while emotional do.

Most programs train regulation.
We train decision-making under pressure.

Most camps focus on activities.
Very few teach kids how to handle frustration, social challenges, and pressure.
Those are the skills to be successful in the AI Era.

Under emotional stress, the brain prioritizes survival over reasoning.

This is why:

* Meltdowns happen
* Logic doesn’t work
* “Use your coping skills” fails

We teach skills in calm environments…
but expect kids to use them in chaos.

❤️ Emotions WITHOUT thinking = ineffective
🧠 Thinking WITHOUT emotions = unrealistic

Skills must be trained in realistic emotional conditions.

Most kids today can talk about their feelings—but still struggle to handle them in real life.

The issue isn’t a lack of coping strategies. It’s how emotional skills are being taught.

If your child:

Knows what to do… but can’t do it in the moment
Overreacts, shuts down, or gets stuck
Struggles socially despite being capable

You’re not alone—and this isn’t a discipline issue.

In this session, you’ll learn:

- Why coping strategies often don’t translate into real-life behavior
- What actually happens in your child’s brain under emotional pressure
- How to help your child think and respond more effectively in the moment
- What makes skills stick beyond the conversation

Most approaches teach kids to:
👉 Talk about feelings
👉 Calm down

But real life requires:
👉 Thinking while emotional
👉 Making decisions under pressure

We’ll show you how that actually develops.

Children with stronger executive function skills (including cognitive flexibility) are more likely to:

Have better academic outcomes
Show stronger emotional regulation
Build healthier relationships

(Diamond, 2013; Zelazo, 2015)

👉 So flexibility doesn’t weaken children—it actually strengthens resilience.
