Thanks to an Illumination Award submitted by Mr. Adrian Aguirre, students at Kubacak Elementary are experiencing music and learning in exciting new ways!

The award provided Tubano drums and professional development opportunities that are already making a difference across campus. The drums have been incorporated into classroom games and activities that engage students through movement, rhythm, and participation, while plans are underway to launch a 5th Grade Drum Club to further expand opportunities for students.

Equally impactful has been the professional development component of the project. Mr. Aguirre has already implemented new interactive teaching strategies that enhance student engagement and create more meaningful learning experiences for every child he serves.

Thanks to an Illumination Award submitted by Mrs. Melissa Ward, students now have even more reasons to demonstrate kindness, leadership, respect, and positive behavior through a new PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Prize Cart!

Students earn "shoutouts" from staff and peers for living out their school's core values, and those shoutouts can be exchanged for a visit to the prize cart—filled with exciting rewards that students themselves helped select. From snacks and school supplies to spirit items and fun surprises, the cart has quickly become a favorite across campus.

But the true impact goes far beyond the prizes.

The PBIS Prize Cart has helped create a culture where students actively encourage one another, celebrate positive choices, and contribute to a stronger sense of community. Some lessons are read in a textbook. Others are experienced.

Thanks to an Illumination Award submitted by Mr. Trinity Danielson, students had the opportunity to participate in a hands-on rat dissection experience that transformed anatomy and physiology from concepts on a page into real-world scientific discovery.

Through this project, students explored organ systems firsthand, deepened their understanding of how the body functions, and made meaningful connections between classroom instruction and real-life biological structures. The experience encouraged curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, and scientific inquiry in ways that traditional instruction alone cannot achieve.

Thanks to an Illumination Award submitted by Mrs. Shayla Petteway, fourth-grade students had the opportunity to visit Alvin Community College and experience firsthand the exciting world of higher education, career pathways, and skilled trades.

Throughout the day, students explored the campus, interacted with college representatives, discovered future career opportunities, and learned what life after high school can look like. Most importantly, they began to see themselves as future college students, skilled professionals, and leaders in their communities.

Mrs. Petteway shared that watching students' excitement and curiosity grow throughout the experience was truly inspiring. The hands-on exploration and direct interaction with campus representatives helped open doors to new possibilities and encouraged students to dream bigger about their futures.

Thanks to an Illumination Award submitted by Mrs. Madison Ratley, second-grade students had the opportunity to visit Froberg's Farm for a hands-on educational experience they won't soon forget.

During their visit, students learned how strawberries grow, explored the journey from farm to table, and even discovered how to identify when strawberries are ripe and ready to pick. What they learned in the classroom came to life in a way that only real-world experiences can provide.

Mrs. Ratley shared that the project exceeded expectations and created lasting memories while deepening students' understanding of agriculture, food production, and the world around them.
