Meet Bedford — he's 3, unstoppable, and because his family chose to share his story, an entire community came together to build an inclusive playground where every kid can play!
In this episode, I sit down with his parents Jesse and Hollie Erickson to talk about navigating a rare diagnosis with almost no roadmap, the everyday accessibility barriers most people never notice, and how a single TikTok post sparked something extraordinary.
This is for every parent who has ever sat in the uncertainty of a diagnosis and wondered, "what does this mean for my child's future?"

AAC ALLY —- Doors close Friday!
Buy-in doesn’t come from better explaining, It comes from better listening.
These 4 questions have changed more AAC outcomes than any strategy I’ve used. What questions do you find helpful for AAC buy in?

She kept saying “muffin”… and nothing in the room explained it until I started playing detective and talked to mom.
They had gotten a muffin together before our last session. She wasn’t labeling—
she was sharing a memory of our last session! And perhaps she was even wondering where her muffin was LOL.
This is the tricky part of AAC... our students start off communicating with single words when they actually have a much bigger message.
I share stories like this inside AAC Ally: Treatment AND I show you how to thing a layer deeper in these moments to help students expand their language without so many breakdowns.
Have you had an experience similar to this?

AAC ALLY and 20% off ends at midnight (no coupon needed!)
I used to think better sessions = more progress. But AAC can’t rely on us always being there, because the reality were usually only there a few times per week (at best!)
Everything changed when I started prioritizing supporting the entire team, not just the student via coaching practices.
I am super proud of the coaching module in this course and have gotten awesome feedback from those already inside the course!
The course is open but the discount ends tonight—Check comments!👇🏻

This one REALLY surprised me. He wouldn’t use “I need space” on his device… despite lots of modeling! It wasn't until we changed how we modeled it.
We started modeling on a simple paper-based AAC board and then he said it on his device!
Small shift. HUGE breakthrough moment!
And it all sparked by knowing what questions to ask and implementing coaching strategies.
I can teach you that AND so much more inside the course!
P.S. AAC Ally: Treatment opens next week! 🥳

“Try again.” Ahh — I used to say this all the time in my own clinical work!
But for many AAC learners, it builds hesitation and can roadblock language learning.
When a child says “frog” instead of “duck,” they’re not wrong.
They’re communicating imperfectly as they learn language.

So excited to share that I’ll be presenting at this year’s SLP Summit!🎉
We’ll be diving into honoring intent in AAC—yes, even the messages that seem random or accidental — and how to build on what kids are already showing us when they’re new AAC users.
So excited for this one. Hope to see you there! 💛

I am SO excited to be speaking at SLP Summit next week and diving into one of the most misunderstood moments in AAC therapy: the messages that don’t seem "accurate", don’t match the goal, or show up at the “wrong” time.
SLP Summit | Jan 12–14, 2026
Live Session: Jan 14 at 7 PM ET/ 4 PM PST
In my session, I'll be covering:
✨ Why repetitive or unclear AAC use is rarely meaningless
✨ How correction-first approaches can shut communication down
✨ What happens when we shift from accuracy to connection
✨ How honoring intent builds trust, engagement, and real language growth
If you work with emergent AAC users and have ever thought,
“What do I do with this?” — this session is for you!
