Many of us started this work because we knew children deserved something different.

More time outdoors.
More autonomy.
More trust.
More opportunities to learn through relationships, play, and real-world experiences.

But building a learning environment outside the traditional model can feel overwhelming. How do we create programs that truly honor children while also supporting the adults who lead them?

That’s exactly what Curious & Kind founder Justine Wilson explores in her NatStart conference session, *Imagine If Education Were Kinder: A Framework for Self-Directed, Forest School Learning That Honors Children and Sustains Teachers.*

Whether you’re launching a forest school, leading a microschool, facilitating homeschool enrichment, or reimagining learning in your community, you’ll leave with practical tools for regulation, conflict resolution, communication, and cultivating a culture of trust and belonging.

✨ Available through NatStart’s asynchronous online conference
✨ Watch on your own schedule
✨ Access the session throughout the year

If you’re building something different and looking for both inspiration and practical support, this session was designed for you.

Looking for a different kind of afterschool program in Sarasota?

ReWild Afterschool is a nature-based drop-off program for children ages 5–10 who need more than another afternoon indoors.

Instead of screens, crowded classrooms, and structured activities, children spend their afternoons exploring 2 acres of forest, field, and creek while building real-world skills through play and adventure.

Each week, children may:

🌿 Build forts and shelters
🔥 Learn fire-building skills
🔪 Practice whittling and tool use
🌱 Explore edible plants and foraging
🐸 Investigate wildlife and ecosystems
🤝 Build confidence, resilience, and friendships

Our experienced educators provide a safe, supervised environment where children can take healthy risks, solve problems, and connect with nature after a full day at school.

Most teen programs ask young people to sit still, memorize information, and wait for real life to begin.
We believe real life is happening right now.

🚀 Launch Pad is a community for teens ages 13–17 who are ready to learn differently. Through projects, outdoor experiences, mentorship, field trips, entrepreneurship, leadership opportunities, and genuine friendships, teens have the space to explore who they are and what they’re capable of becoming.

Because teenagers don’t just need academics.

They need belonging.
They need purpose.
They need trusted adults.
They need meaningful work.
They need community.

One parent recently shared:

“We love the balance of structured learning with the flow and openness. The group projects are great. We love the combination of inside and outside and special trips. We are so grateful!”

If your teen is craving something more than worksheets, screens, and passive learning, we’d love to meet you.

✨ Fall enrollment is open.
✨ Tours are now scheduling.
✨ Trial days are available.

Send us a message or call to schedule a visit and see if Launch Pad is the right fit for your family.

If your child seems anxious, overwhelmed, constantly dysregulated, or unable to focus, you’re not imagining it.

Parents are seeing it everywhere.

The research is, too.

Children today spend significantly less time outdoors than previous generations, while rates of anxiety, attention challenges, and stress continue to rise.

At the same time, study after study has found that time spent in nature can reduce stress hormones, improve attention, support emotional regulation, and increase overall well-being in children.

Why?

Because nature asks something different of children.

There are no flashing notifications.
No constant demands.
No pressure to perform.

Just space to move their bodies, follow their curiosity, solve real problems, take manageable risks, and let their nervous systems settle.

Sometimes what looks like a child who “can’t focus” is actually a child who hasn’t had enough opportunities to focus on something meaningful.

Sometimes what looks like dysregulation is a nervous system asking for more movement, more freedom, more connection, and more time outdoors.

That’s why ReWild Afterschool exists.

Not as another activity to add to your calendar.

But as a place where children can climb, build, explore, create, get muddy, make friends, and reconnect with the things their brains and bodies were designed for.

🪵 Because childhood was never meant to happen entirely indoors.

A few spots remain in ReWild Afterschool this fall. Apply through the link in bio.

Research shows that girls who spend time exploring freely in nature are more likely to develop confidence, resilience, problem-solving skills, and a sense of belonging in science and nature- related fields.

But the truth is, nature offers something powerful to every child.

A creek becomes a science lab.
A fallen log becomes an engineering challenge.
A tree becomes a lesson in courage.

When children are given the freedom to explore, create, test ideas, make mistakes, and try again, they aren’t just learning about the world around them.

They’re learning who they are within it.

At Curious & Kind, we see this every week. Children asking questions no worksheet could inspire. Building confidence through real experiences. Developing curiosity, independence, and a deep connection to the natural world.

The research is clear: children need nature.

And childhood needs more room to wander.

Summer offers something many educators rarely get enough of: space.

Space to reflect. Space to learn. Space to imagine what could be possible in the year ahead.

For years, Curious & Kind founder Justine has been asked the same question:

“How do you create learning environments that truly honor children without burning adults out?”

After years of leading nature-based programs, mentoring educators, and building child-centered communities, she’s finally putting that answer into words.

🌿 *Imagine If Education Were Kinder* is a new video course exploring the framework behind self-directed, nature-based learning that honors children and sustains adults.

And if you’re looking for ongoing support, inspiration, and practical guidance, summer is the perfect time to join The CK Way before a new school year begins.

Because creating kinder education starts with supporting the adults doing the work.
