Attention Seattle-area ceramic artists: Registration has begun for Rain City Clay's 4th Annual Holiday Show! ✨

The show runs December 3rd - 6th and is open to the entire ceramic community: not just RCC/RCS students, staff, and instructors, but any local artists working at home or in other community studios.

There are a range of display space sizes available, from large tables to 12" cubbies perfect for selling a few pieces.

We have a new feature at Rain City Clay - the Clay Curio! This cute little house is a place to share with the ceramics community. Handmade cups, bowls, plates, vases, and small sculptures are all welcome - just be thoughtful in what you give or take!

We hope this will become a well-used and well-loved part of the RCC experience! 💧🧡

Join us in December for a two-day, hands-on workshop with ceramic sculptor and educator Alanna DeRocchi, whose work reimagines the still life through playful scale, familiar objects, and a warm sense of humor.

Drawing from the long tradition of still life—objects arranged, observed, and loaded with meaning—this workshop invites participants to build contemporary still-life sculptures in clay, often centered around food and everyday items. Alanna will share approachable methods for constructing larger handbuilt forms, breaking down complex builds into manageable, confidence-building steps.

From Olivia's artist statement:
"Building each piece has its own rhythmic and extensive process, heavily based in experimentation and spontaneity. My works are primarily slab-built and occasionally include wheel-thrown components. I approach them as a geometric puzzle, changing form with every slight adjustment to the surface planes. Each new piece begins with the general shape and the function it will serve. Building slab by slab allows for constant reflection and awareness of form. Every addition directly influences the next. This kind of control is constant throughout my practice; each section is measured, drawn, cut from paper, and made into a slab. My practice revolves around the idea of breaking down and building back up."
