Honored to be in community today at Wing Luke Museum for a special screening of Making Waves: The Rise of Asian America in celebration of AA&NH/PI Heritage Month. Proud for MUV WA to stand alongside OCA Greater Seattle, Wing Luke Museum, and UW American Ethnic Studies in supporting this powerful gathering discussing representation, visibility, and Asian American activism. The filmmaker Jon Osaki and panel, including Devin Cabanilla representing MUV WA, Dr. Connie So (UW AES), and Doan Diane Hoàng Dy (Wing Luke), reminded us that every step forward in our history has been shaped by action, protest, and collective voice.

From the 1968 student strikes to today’s movements, the throughline is clear: our communities persist. Seeing our youth step into this legacy with courage and purpose gives real hope for what’s ahead. We’ll continue to advocate, organize, and build - right here in Washington.

Designed for K-12 educators, coaches, and school leaders (but open to all), this session explores how arts education has historically excluded AA&NH/PI voices and how to build a more inclusive, identity-affirming curriculum across classrooms. This Women’s History Month, we celebrate trailblazers who broke barriers through persistence, courage, and a commitment to community.

✨ Ai-jen Poo - A powerful advocate for domestic workers and caregiving, leading a movement for dignity, fair wages, and recognition of essential work.

🎬 Anna May Wong - The first Chinese American Hollywood film star, who challenged stereotypes and paved the way for Asian American representation on screen.

📚 Bernice Pauahi Bishop - A visionary leader who dedicated her legacy to education, founding schools that continue to empower Native Hawaiian communities.

Their work continues to shape workers’ rights, representation on screen, and access to education.

What a day. ✨ We had the honor of tabling at “Our Voices,” a celebration of the Southeast Asian Community at the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma (3/21). The entire museum was full of energy, culture, connection - with games, performances, spoken word, a panel discussion, and an incredible Southeast Asian food showcase. Susan Lieu, Vietnamese American author, playwright, and performer, shared her powerful story.

For MUV WA, this was one of the most meaningful tabling events we’ve been part of. We had real conversations with school board members, teachers (including one who used our coloring book in her 3rd grade class! 🙌), children (who read some of the books we displayed in their classes), artists, and historians. Every single person stopped, engaged, and shared something. This is why we do this work. 💛
