The award recognizes talent and leadership by teaching artists, arts educators, and culture bearers who represent communities including:
- Indigenous and BBIA/BIPOC communities
- LGBTQIA+ communities
- People with disabilities
- Multilingual and English Language Learner communities
- Immigrant and refugee communities
- Rural communities and communities outside King & Pierce counties

In this workshop, participants will:
- Develop foundational tools for marketing themselves as teaching artists
- Learn how to plan successful residencies with partner organizations
- Explore strategies for implementation and long-term success
- Reflect on culturally responsive and inclusive teaching spaces
- Gain practical resources about contracts, payments, and more

⭐ About the workshop leaders:

Carina A. del Rosario (she/her) is a cultural worker who uses visual art, writing and teaching to build community. She has served on Seattle Public School’s Antiracist Arts Education Task Force and manages ArtsWA’s WAYAL youth arts leadership program. She received the Dr. Constance W. Rice Fellowship for Teaching Artists from the Seattle Art Museum in 2025, and Golden Apple Award for Innovation in Education in 2020.

Orlando Morales (he/him) is currently Assistant Artistic Director for the Tacoma Refugee Choir and holds a Masters in Teaching from the University of Washington. He has over eighteen years of experience teaching music and theater and over thirteen years of experience as an arts administrator (Seattle Children’s Theatre, 2013-2015; The 5th Avenue Theatre, 2010-2013, 2015-2023).

Washington State Teaching Artist Training Lab

This Wednesday! Join the Seattle Cultural Accessibility Consortium June 3 from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM PDT for a virtual lunch-and-learn panel: Advancing Blind and Low-Vision Access in the Arts.

We will hear directly from blind and low-vision patrons and arts professionals who will share their lived and professional experiences navigating cultural spaces. Whether you are an arts administrator, a creator, a museum docent, or an equity advocate, this conversation will offer practical takeaways on tactile tours, audio descriptions, and shifting the cultural landscape toward true belonging.
