DAY 7 — The Culture of Interpretation
Walls, temples, floors, and artifacts are more than physical remains. Archaeologists seek to understand the people behind them—their beliefs, activities, and daily lives. Touring the temple of the Lower City revealed how archaeology depends on interpretation. Every stone becomes part of a larger story. The challenge is not simply finding evidence but learning how to read it.

DAY 6 — The Culture of Belonging
Archaeological teams often resemble temporary communities. People arrive from different nations, backgrounds, and experiences, yet quickly develop a sense of belonging through shared work and shared goals. From morning excavations to evening pottery washing, every member contributes to a larger effort. Archaeology reminds us that meaningful communities can form wherever people unite around a common purpose.

DAY 5 — The Culture of Learning
Archaeological excavations function as living classrooms. Learning occurs everywhere—in excavation squares, on tours, during meals, and even on short rides to the site. Experienced archaeologists pass along knowledge gained through decades of fieldwork, while newcomers contribute fresh perspectives. Archaeology is not only about uncovering the past; it is also about cultivating future generations of scholars.

One of the greatest misconceptions about archaeology is that it is simply digging. In reality, archaeology is a science of careful observation and documentation. Learning to use a leveling instrument revealed how much precision is required to record even the smallest details. DAY 3 — The Culture of Shared Labor Excavations bring together people from different countries, universities, and professions. What unites them is a shared willingness to work together in pursuit of understanding the past.
