Our focus is on readying children for Kindergarten through play-based learning and a strong social-emotional curriculum.
Our water scientists are beginning to notice what happens to living things when they don’t have enough water. We have been watering one plant in our science center and not watering the other so we can observe the changes that happen.

Today during stations, these two young scientists explored measurement by using tape measures to compare objects around the science center. Hands-on learning helps build early math, problem-solving, and observation skills.

Why do we spend so much time in play-based learning stations?
Because children learn best through hands-on experiences!
When you see our preschoolers building, creating, pretending, exploring, and playing, they’re actually developing important school-readiness skills every day:
✅ Language and communication skills through conversations with friends
✅ Early math skills through counting, sorting, measuring, and patterning
✅ Pre-reading skills through storytelling, books, and print-rich environments
✅ Fine motor skills through writing, cutting, painting, and manipulating small objects
✅ Problem-solving and critical thinking through exploration and discovery
✅ Social-emotional skills like sharing, cooperation, self-regulation, and empathy
✅ Creativity and imagination through open-ended play 
✅ Independence and confidence as they make choices and complete tasks on their own
To a child, it feels like play. To teachers, it’s purposeful learning carefully designed to help children grow academically, socially, emotionally, and physically.
Plus, kids actively engaged in stations means our teachers can pull small groups to the teacher table to work on individualized learning goals.

💧 The Power of Water 💧
Our PreK/K/1 Summer Crew kicked off our Power of Water unit this week!
We learned that plants and animals need water to live, discovered that much of Earth is covered by water, and explored how water moves. We also introduced the vocabulary words solid, liquid, and gas.
In science, we observed three containers of ice: a control, one covered in salt, and one placed in warm water. The children discovered that the ice in the warm water melted the fastest!

Funnels, pipes, and pumps…oh my! Through play, we experimented with moving water and explored how it flows. 🌊💧
