There is a difference between taking a workshop… and immersing yourself in a practice.
The Signature Series at Aya Fiber Studio and Aizome Studio was created for those who want to go deeper — beyond quick techniques and surface results — into process, repetition, discipline, cloth, and material understanding.
These workshops are intentionally small and immersive.
You spend 2-full days working beside the instructor. Watching hands move. Asking questions in real time. Learning how materials respond. Understanding not only how something is made.
The Signature Series focuses on workshops rooted in depth, tradition, experimentation, and meaningful studio practice — including shibori, indigo, katazome, surface design, stitching, paper, and mixed media textile processes.
Many students travel long distances for these experiences because there is something powerful about stepping away from everyday life and entering a creative environment fully devoted to making.
This is slow learning.
Hands-on learning.
Community learning.
And in today’s world, that feels more important than ever.
What shibori process could you happily spend days exploring?

Excited to welcome NEW instructor Daniel Essig to Aya Fiber Studio for a remarkable exploration of sculptural book arts, translucency, texture, and storytelling through handbound books.
In this immersive workshop, participants will create and fill a handbound book using the timeless elegance and strength of the Coptic binding structure. Fine papers and translucent mica sheets become layered spaces for treasures, imagery, memory, and narrative — transforming the book into an intimate sculptural object.
Students will explore both natural and manmade mica while learning its unique properties, working back into the pages to construct niches, alcoves, and secret spaces that invite discovery and interaction.
This workshop beautifully bridges book arts, sculpture, fiber sensibility, and mixed media experimentation — perfect for artists who love texture, structure, and meaning
