Tip of the 𧢠to Highlandâs Team Captains! Students have earned âď¸s over the past couple of years by taking in responsibilities related to tutoring younger students, being Bus Buddies, being a part of Oscarâs Care Team, the Recycling Rangers, Litter Patrol, Courtyard Keepers, Teachersâ Aides, Lost & Found Organizers, Recess Rangers, and Safety Patrol. From our 47 one âď¸ Team Captains to our first ever âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ Team Captains, Highland is better off thanks to your generosity, sense of responsibility, and leadership!
5th Grade Team Captains earn a tshirt that lines up with their level of service. Students who have not come to us to grab their t-shirt yet can stop in the Main Office this week or in August to pick up theirs.

Thanks to Meteorologist Chris Vickers and WTOL 11 for hosting Noah, Hadley, and Amelia at the station today so that they could represent Dance Marathonâs Blue Team and present the eventâs donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Chris and his teammates were more than generous with their time, explaining in detail how they use science and technology to go about predicting the weather, and how the television production side of things work. Todayâs check presentation coincided with the signing day for the Dream Home campaign, which has helped raise millions of dollars over the years for patients at St. Jude. Thank you for representing the Blue Team, all of the Dance Marathon participants, and Highland, Noah, Hadley, and Amelia!

So many 3rd Graders made lemonade out of the đ weather đ§ď¸ yesterday and hosted their Lemonade Day stands anyway! We are proud of their determination and resilience.
Another round today! Donât forget to tag the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce so that you can be in the running for Entrepreneur of the Year!
For everyone stopping and supporting their economics and entrepreneurial learning, THANK YOU! Also, special shoutout to the real lemonade pros at The Squeeze for driving around town and supporting our kidsâ stands. We can officially dispel the rumors that they were conducting reconnaissance for lemonade recipe tips. They were just there to support the next generation of entrepreneurs.

We were SOOOO happy to welcome Caldecott Medal honoree Philip Stead, author of the amazing Amos McGee childrenâs books, and more! Itâs so interesting to learn about how skilled professionals go about their work of thinking, creating, writing, and illustrating.
A big thank you to the Highland Parent Organization - HPO for sponsoring Mr. Steadâs visit! Also, kudos to our reading intervention team for planning and organizing Mr. Steadâs visit today. They had him all over our school presenting to big groups, meeting with individual classes, and even individual meet and greets. Thank you, Kelly Cochrane Duwve, Sue Niese Garrett, and Mrs. Emch!
