Our communities need to focus on solutions to homelessness, rather than things like camping bans that just move people from one place to another. HB 2489 needs to pass.

Here is an update on warm and dry spaces across Pierce County as river flooding continues today:

** South Prairie Evacuation Notice Lifted **

As of Dec. 12, evacuations in Pierce County have been lifted.

⚠️ Evacuations in South Prairie ⚠️

Please see below map for evacuation notices in South Prairie for Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025.

Level 3 Evacuations - GO NOW evacuation notice for homes between SR 162 and S. Prairie Rd. E, west to Emery Ave N. PPierce County Sheriff's Officeis going door-to-door to notify people in the area.

Level 2 Evacuations - BE SET evacuation notice for homes south of SR 162, east of Rainier Ave. SE to Veteran's Park. Please be prepared to evacuate at a moment’s notice.

DO NOT WALK OR DRIVE through moving water or on flooded roadways. IF DRIVING, do not drive around a barricade or on closed roads.

🟠Free sandbag supplies are temporarily unavailable at our TAGRO facility due to rising river levels and safety concerns.

The City's Public Works department will continue to provide free, self-serve sandbag materials at the Tacoma Asphalt Plant (3010 Center St.). Open Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–3:30 p.m., while supplies last.

As part of the response to ongoing flooding, an overnight shelter will be open tonight - Dec. 10, 2025 - at Meridian Habitat Park (14422 Meridian Ave E) in Puyallup. The shelter is open for anyone displaced by the weather, including those who are currently homeless.

The shelter will be operated by the Red Cross.

Join us this afternoon from 3:30-5 p.m. for a World Homeless Day protest at the Federal Courthouse in downtown Tacoma -- speak out against the proposed camping ban expansion.

There are places homeless encampments cannot be. But in order to say “don’t be here,” we also have to say “you can be here,” or else we are just saying “don’t be.”*
