Water level in Alian and surrounding villages has subsided, but it’s still pretty wet. The construction of the D**e is ongoing now in Alian area and we hope the village doesn’t get flooded again this coming rainy season. Here area pictures of our school. Thanks brother, Hon Abraham Mamer Kuur for visiting the village and sending me pictures of the school. Haley Montana Maria Rumbaugh Gross Amber Holland

Help Flood Victims - South Sudan organized by Jok Nhial 08/16/2020

The entire state of Jonglei is submerged in flood waters caused by heavy rains and overflow from the Nile River, forcing people to abandon villages (including Alian where our school is located) and evacuate to Bor-town, the capital city of Jonglei State. While Bor-Town was also flooded, the flooding was somewhat contained with help from the United Nation Mission in South Sudan. South Sudan’s President has declared a state of emergency in Jonglei State due to the flood.

This is a humanitarian disaster in the making as thousands of people are still to be evacuated to dry land and the displaced population is facing hunger and disease. The LEP is responding by providing food, mosquito nets, tents and evacuation support. If you are able to donate, your support will immediately help those impacted by the flooding. You may donate here through GoFundMe or on our website by Clicking here . Please write "Flood relief in comment section when you donate on our website.

We are pleased to announce the completion of our second building at Mary Dunnam’s Secondary School (MDSS). Thanks to our donors, supporters, LEP board members and volunteers for their unwavering supports over the past years. We couldn’t have done it without your support!

Also, with support from individual donors and Claremont Sunrise Rotary Club, we will have a water-well in school this year. Water-well drilling contractor has dropped off equipment at the school and they have promised to drill the well this month.

Your donation will go a long way. Not only are you helping South Sudanese children access basic education, but also creating jobs for local population. Mary Dunnam’s Secondary School has 17 permanent employees, making it the largest employer in former Athoc County. Also, during the construction of our second building, LEP employed more than 20 people.

We still need your support to keep school open. Teacher’s salary is $200 dollars per a month or $2,000 dollars per a year. Remember that small donations of $5 dollars add up, and even better if you are able to do a monthly donation. Please visit our website at www.liliireducationproject.org

Thank you for your continued support. Stay Safe and healthy!
