Corbett Preparatory School of IDS

Week 2 of CAMP IDS is hitting the target for another awesome week! Archery campers aimed for the bullseye, cooks and bakers filled the kitchen with delicious creations and Claymation moviemakers began bringing their characters to life. Campers have found different ways to express themselves in camps such as Canva Creativity, Fine Motor Fun and Phonics, Recycle Art and Living Literature. Meanwhile, Sports Spectacular, basketball and Sports Performance balance fitness and fun with games for all ages. And musical theatre campers in Grades 3-8 are back with another show – rehearsals for “Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr.” are underway with the first show opening on Thursday!

Last week our International Baccalaureate coordinators, Ashley Mabry and Lisa Vicencio, had the opportunity to present to other IB educators at the Florida Association of IB World Schools quarterly meeting. They talked about differentiation in teaching students and shared strategies to support students in their IB learning, drawing from what they had studied in the gifted course Corbett Prep faculty completed last year through Northwestern. It was an inspiring session!

"Shrek The Musical Jr." took audiences on a hilarious and heartwarming journey from the swamp to the dragon’s lair to Duloc this week! More than 50 students in 3rd-8th grade came together on Monday to learn blocking, choreography and songs to prepare for four amazing performances on Thursday and Friday! This talented group filled two casts and kept the audiences laughing as they followed the adventures of an ogre and his noble steed.

Our first week of CAMP IDS flew by! American Girl doll camp hosted a fashion show on a red carpet, Mystical Muggles mixed up potions and Babysitters’ Club put what they learned into practice by visiting our friendly and busy Pre-Rec campers! We had sports competitions, craft projects, field trips, graphic design and more keeping our campers happy and engaged. We look forward to seeing our returning campers and new faces on Monday!

Our international travelers have returned! Ten Corbett Prep Middle School students arrived home safely this week from Spain, where they had the opportunity to live with host families, engage in a cultural exchange with Spanish students, tour historic sites and deepen their language skills. This trip came about due to the strong relationship Corbett Prep has had for nearly 20 years with Colegios Ramón y Cajal in Madrid. We were thrilled to welcome 13 Spanish students in January to show them our school, and our Corbett Prep students loved the chance to be their guests. The immersive experience built both lifelong friendships and memories.

It’s the first day of CAMP IDS 2026! Musical theatre started rehearsals for "Shrek," Cooking camp rolled out dough for pizza, Mystical Muggles crafted their wands and Minecraft launched a building competition. Legos and Chess challenged campers to apply problem solving and critical thinking skills. Games got underway immediately in sports camps, while students in art camps tapped into their creativity and Little Vets adopted their pets. The fun activities and friendships building in these camps and more are just the beginning of what promises to be a busy six weeks!

Tabloid sensation Bat Boy landed in the Farish Center last week as 35 Community School of the Arts students performed in an emotional show that offered up humor and horror. Three talented casts of primarily high school students brought to life a wild interpretation of a famous “Weekly World News” story from the 1990s that raised questions about acceptance, scapegoating and mob mentality. What these students accomplished after just 10 days of rehearsals deserves the real headlines!

We’re all smiles, because we are just days away from the opening of CAMP IDS 2026! Come by today (Tuesday) until 5 p.m. or Wednesday from 8-10 a.m. to pick up your camp T-shirt and your car tag for the summer and save some time Monday morning. Summer is off to an amazing start for two incredible groups of students! Our Odyssey of the Mind kids are making lifetime memories at World Finals in Iowa, while our world travelers are reconnecting with their exchange students in Spain and experiencing another culture firsthand!
