Teacher is one profession that it requires 100% giving. What you receive my not ever be equivalent and to expect that is not realistic. Principals giving you praise is not the same as a student or parent. Take those wins!
Being a teacher is an adventure. No one day is the same and every day a teacher has the opportunity to make a difference in a student’s life.
Continue enjoying the summer—whatever you are doing!

Superintendents, School Districts & Principals,
If the goal at the end of the day is student achievement, then you have to stop running your teachers out of the building—whether you fire them or they quit.
Let’s talk. Every principal is NOT principal material. Getting a masters or doctorate in leadership, passing exams, or knowing the right people does not make you a good leader or a good principal for a school. And based on teacher turnover rates, time in the role hasn’t been the solution! There are some very tangible and fundamental leadership skills that need re-tooling.
FACT #1 - Effective principals are likable not because they are nice, but because they know how to invest in their teachers and staff. If your teachers are not happy to see you in the morning, they don’t like you! If your teachers don’t ask how your family members are or don’t want to show you any appreciation, they don’t like you.
FACT #2 - Leaders need their people. No principal can do it alone. And if every year you have more than 1-2% non-organic turnover, then it is YOU. You are the problem. You and your AP team are the reason why teachers leave. I have heard countless times, “it’s not the kids…it’s admin.” Admin hears this and just replaces the teacher and recreates that same cycle with a new teacher.
It is time to reflect. What type of leader are you being? Are you power tripping? Are you micromanaging? Are you lacking empathy? Are you failing to connect? Do you fail to support teachers who are dealing with bad student behaviors, what is it? It has to be something.
Hi! My name is Victoria Ealy and I am a seasoned educator, public service professional and keynote speaker. My background in education, non-profit and psychology has enlightened me on what the problem is, but are you READY to hear it?
Invite me to speak to your principals and administrators about your people—not just “teachers”, but people. What do people need from their leaders to perform well and stay? What hard truths need to be said to shake up stale leadership in your schools!
Let’s talk about it.
