The Criminology Institute for Research and Training (CIRT) is focused on supporting students and advancing criminal justice research that makes a real-world impact—both locally and across the country.
CIRT helps strengthen academic programs, support graduate student training and success, and build opportunities for hands-on learning and research. It also plays a key role in increasing recognition of the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice while connecting students to new opportunities and resources that support their academic and professional goals.

On April 15, students in the inaugural CSSME Student Problem-Solving Competition took on a real-world challenge: helping Girls on the Run of Greater Tampa Bay strengthen the recruitment and retention of volunteer coaches.

The winning team, Team Momentum, stood out with a proposal to build a structured network of veteran coaches to support, attract, and retain new volunteers — a simple yet powerful idea rooted in empowerment and community.

CSSME is proud of all the students, faculty mentors, and community partners who made this inaugural competition such a success!

Another year, another UTampa Model United Nations’ team competing at Harvard. This year’s group represented Bangladesh. Congrats to this year’s team and thanks to all the alumni who have represented us, and their assigned country, well over the decades.
