One of my favorite parts of tutoring…
is watching kids start to believe in themselves again 🤍

When reading has been hard, confidence takes a hit too.

That’s why I focus on both-
building strong readers AND helping kids feel capable again.

This is something I see ALL the time.

A student can “read” a word… but only when there’s a picture to help.

Take the picture away and suddenly they’re stuck.

That’s not because they aren’t capable.
It’s because they haven’t been taught how to actually decode the word yet.

Pictures can support comprehension but they shouldn’t be doing the reading for the child.

This is exactly why I focus so much on building strong, explicit reading skills 💛

This quote says so much.

Too often, children are told to “just keep trying” or “they’ll catch up.”

But when a child is struggling to read, waiting for them to fail before providing the right support can cost them confidence, time, and belief in themselves.

Early, structured reading instruction matters.

When we give students the right tools - and the right approach - they can learn to read.

That’s why I’m so passionate about the work I do every day with my students. 💛

Because every child deserves the chance to become a confident reader.

I started tutoring kids in my home…
then a tiny in-person office in Minnesota…
then online tutoring in Arizona.☀️
