As we step into May, I want to take a moment to reflect on April, Sexual Assault Awareness Month
BGSU Take Back the Night.
This work is about more than acknowledgment, it’s about accountability.
It’s about ending the culture of minimizing harm, dismissing stories and failing to create environments where people feel safe to exist without fear of abuse or harassment.
We have to be intentional about building spaces, workplaces, schools, communities. Where survivors are believed, supported and protected. Where policies aren’t just written, but lived. Where safety isn’t a privilege but a standard.
I’m grateful for institutions and employees, volunteers and students at the Center for Women and Gender Equity at BGSU that continue to create space for survivors and their supporters to come together, to uplift one another, honor those we’ve lost and advocate for a future where this harm no longer exists.
This is ongoing work.

Their courage and resilience inspire the work we do every day at Equality Ohio to continue identifying and transforming systems so that all LGBTQ+ Ohioans can fully access legal and lived equality.

From Marsha P. Johnson’s revolutionary activism to Audre Lorde’s powerful words, these icons have shaped history and continue to light our path forward. We honor them by carrying their legacy in the fight for equality and justice for all.

Today, on André Leon Talley's birthday, we honor his towering legacy in fashion and beyond. As a Black q***r icon, Talley broke boundaries with grace, power, and unapologetic style. His influence went beyond the capes and kaftans; it was in how he championed diversity, opened doors for Black creatives, and made space for us to be ourselves in an industry that often silenced our voices.

Talley’s career is a testament to the brilliance that emerges when you dare to stand tall, even when the world tries to shrink you. Rest in power, André. You will forever be our giant.

Dozens of LGBTQ+ Ohioans receive awards for activism and advocacy Across the state, LGBTQ+ Ohioans and their allies are being recognized for their work.

Inviting in" disrupts traditional power dynamics that don't center the experiences of LGBTQ+ people. It also highlights the importance of bilateral relationships and reminds us that people aren't entitled to information about others' experiences unless it's offered voluntarily.
