Big news launching Tuesday. Forest Kindergarten is coming to Ventura. 10 students, 2 teachers, outside daily from 8:30am-1:30pm, plus after care options to 5pm. Ages 4-6 years. Integrated curriculum that mixes experiential learning with nature play. garten
This week I taught aerodynamics to our summer camp: lift, thrust, flight, science, mathematics, engineering. After studying migratory animals they built their own kites. They started tinkering with designs in our big tan tent and then were off to play. Six year olds talking to one another “yours needs more lift, maybe make your wings with a stick like a bird bone” and others saying “you’ve got to run faster so you can get more thrust”.
They learned about wind direction, wing size, and kite shape. They ran, they laughed, they twirled, they jumped, they rolled, they sang, they celebrated. They were so alive! Fully child and yet fully engaged in a deep mathematical and scientific pursuit-flight.
If school was like this…your child would be happy to go everyday. And wow all that they would learn!
