🚨 Action Alert for Texas Residents: Texas Social Studies Standards
The Texas State Board of Education is preparing to vote on new social studies standards that will shape how more than 5.5 million students learn history and social studies.
Historians have raised concerns that the draft standards present a narrowed view of world history, contain significant omissions and distortions, and prioritize content coverage at the expense of historical thinking skills.
Public comment is open until Monday, June 15, at 5 p.m. CT.
The AHA urges historians, educators, parents, and concerned citizens in Texas in to make their voices heard:
📢 Submit public comments
📞 Contact your SBOE member
📝 Reach out to your state legislators
Every student deserves access to historically accurate, evidence-based social studies education. Public feedback can help strengthen these standards before the final vote.
If you're in Texas, take action. If you're elsewhere, help spread the word.
