❤️ *City Girls DC events are for anyone who identifies as a “City Girl” – all women, nonbinary, and genderqueer folks who identify with that term are welcome! If you are a mentor or tutor bringing your student, your student can be of any gender.

👭 We’re excited to partner with City Girls as they promote wellness and community connection in the DC area. Outdoor exercise can help us build confidence in one another and connect with our neighbors!

A few shades tanner and 108 more community members looking to get involved! Our long weekend was filled with joy recruiting tutors, mentors, and coaches.

On Juneteenth, our team connected with neighbors at ONE DC's Juneteenth Community Festival, the Ward 7 Juneteenth Parade and Opal’s Walk for Freedom, and Bryant St Market's Juneteenth Market and Celebration. It was special joining these celebrations and tabling with other organizations serving DC families. There remains much work to be done to continue building a loving community.

We also recruited volunteers on Saturday at the Half Street Central Farm Market, the Capital Pride Parade, and the 17th Street Pride Block Party. On Sunday, we shared volunteer opportunities at the Capital Pride Festival on Penn Ave.

We’re grateful for the friendly crowd and everyone who stopped by to chat. Several had tutored or mentored before and were looking to get involved again. Others were new to DC or here for a summer internship!

Step up for high school boys in DC this summer!
The Boys to Men Mentoring Network, Greater Washington is a school-based group mentoring program that helps at-risk youth on their journey to becoming the adults they want to be. To do so, they need caring adults willing to share their life experience!

Men are especially needed but volunteers of all genders are welcome (Girls to Women mentoring circles will be starting up in the fall)!

You'll join a community of mentors who listen, encourage, and believe in young people.

What it looks like:
➡️ Guide group discussions on topics of youths' concerns
➡️ Create safe, judgement-free zones
➡️ Explore and develop concepts of healthy living together
➡️ Commit to one session per week for 6 weeks, taking place in-person on Fridays from 1:00–3:30pm

Programs start on July 10th at these locations:
•Ward 5: Phelps ACE High School (704 26th St NE)
•Ward 5: UDC-CC Lamond Riggs Campus (5171 South Dakota Ave)
•Ward 7: HD Woodson High School (540 55th St NE)
•Ward 8: Anacostia High School (1601 16th St SE)

HD Woodson also offers a Monday option with flexible volunteer hours (they’ll try to work with your availability) between 9:00am–3:30pm, running from June 29-August 3.

Volunteers must be 25+ and live in the DMV.DM us to learn more!

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and fatherly figures who provide kids the support they need to thrive!

We're thinking back to this father and daughter who signed up together to learn more about volunteering. We met them last fall at Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park during a community event.

May this love and care continue going around!

A weekend full of joy and pride!🌈

On Saturday, our team will be connecting with neighbors at the Capital Pride Parade on 14th St and the 17th St Pride Block Party! Every young person deserves to feel safe, valued, and cared for regardless of their gender identity, sexual orientation, race, socioeconomic status, citizenship status, or location. We hope those showing up for will join us in our mission to make the world a better place by volunteering to mentor or tutor.

Our team will also be at the Half Street Central Farm Market on Saturday to share summer volunteer opportunities, and we’ll continue our free community yoga sessions at Columbia Heights Green.

On Sunday, we’ll wrap up the long weekend at the Capital Pride Festival on Penn Ave.Between Juneteenth and Pride, we’re filled with joy, energy, and a sense of purpose. We hope you are too, and will be inspired to take action with us!

On Juneteenth, we celebrate the end of slavery in the US, more than 2 years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.

The long and continued fight for freedom reminds us that each one of us has a role to play in the struggle to build a better world.

Congressman John Lewis lived that truth in his prominent role in the Civil Rights movement, sustaining physical attacks, serious injury, and many arrests. As we try to build a freer, more loving society, we remember his words:

“Ours is not the struggle of one day, one week or one year. Ours is not the struggle of one judicial appointment or presidential term. Ours is the struggle of a lifetime, or maybe even many lifetimes, and each one of us in every generation must do our part.” — John Lewis, “Across That Bridge: Life Lessons and a Vision for Change”

Our team joined festivities today at ONE DC's Juneteenth Community Festival, the Ward 7 Juneteenth Parade and Opal’s Walk for Freedom, and Bryant Street Market's Juneteenth Market and Celebration. Joy was in the air! Thank you to all the community organizers, families, and neighbors who showed up and are channeling positive energy into the community!

D_YogaDude will lead us in a refreshing all-levels yoga class. Just bring a yoga mat (we have a few spare) and a friend.

We live in a world where forces are constantly fighting for our attention. Learning how to focus is a true skill. When we do this and take time to practice clearing distractions, we can build a more meaningful life! We can also feel more connected to others and capable of giving back.

We don’t always understand the impact we have as a volunteer. But as Jeimy shares, young people do and will remember caring adults who show up consistently.Jeimy has been tutoring and working with kids at the Community Services Foundation's (CSF) affordable housing communities for two decades. It’s so clear how much joy and warmth she brings to the her students after school!

DM us to learn more about supporting CSF or other tutoring programs this summer!
