"Nearly 90% of cervical cancer and related fatalities occur in low-income and middle-income countries and lowresourced areas within developed countries. In the 1980s, self-sampling was introduced to reach this vulnerable population and those with behavioral aversion to clinician-based screening. Currently, dozens of selfsampling devices have been studied for cervical cancer screening. Here, we consolidated data from an extensive peer-reviewed literature search to summarize the prevalence, accuracy, and acceptance rates of cervical cancer screening self-sampling devices worldwide."

"State Perinatal Quality Collaboratives (PQCs) exist in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the Armed Forces. All PQCs work to reduce preventable maternal morbidity and mortality through statewide implementation of evidence-based practices. PQCs have been successful in improving outcomes through key strategies, including strong hospital engagement; use of quality-improvement (QI) methodology such as rapid-cycle data review, collaborative learning, and supplemental technical assistance; and strategic partnerships. Here we provide examples of ways four state PQCs have implemented these strategies and their successes. Many PQCs focus on improving in-hospital care with initiatives related to hemorrhage, hypertension, or promoting vaginal birth or other hospital-based care improvements. Given the contribution of mental health, substance use disorder, cardiovascular conditions, and social drivers to postpartum pregnancy-related deaths, PQCs are expanding their scope to include the ambulatory and nonobstetric care settings and more community partners."

"This study describes an 8-year, multistage process that produced a hierarchical algorithm for assigning a single underlying condition for SMM when individual case reviews are not possible. The initiative started with detailed medical record reviews, went through multiple iterations of refinement, and involved health care professionals from numerous hospitals in multiple states, matching with medical records, followed by analyses in large state and national datasets that included more than 150,000 SMM cases from more than 6 million deliveries. Given that SMM occurs 100 times more frequently than maternal deaths, understanding the underlying conditions responsible for SMM, rather than the SMM list of complications, should provide focused direction for clinical and public health improvements in maternal health. The resulting algorithm has the potential to become an important research tool to study SMM among populations and over time."
