Our 7th graders closed out May with a presentation of literary and artistic works, poetry, music, created games, and podcasts for the annual 7th Grade Power Project in which they shared, exhibition-style, what they learned to families, faculty, and fellow students.

The culmination of a year-long study of revolutions with focus on the Haitian Revolution, the Indian independence movement and partition, the Iranian Revolution, African independence movements, Indigenous peoples perspectives, Cold War communism belief systems and more, the project works at developing global citizenship and historical empathy in students.

Congratulations to all on a job well done!

At the end of last month, the 2nd Grade held an exhibition of works from the 2nd Grade Identity Project.

Acting as museum guides, the students walked parents and visitors through the created gallery space bedecked with their artwork, stories, and artifacts, explaining the meaning of each and of the various projects they had worked on, and inviting them to learn more about each of them as individuals and the ways they are unique.

“Identity is made up of many different parts. Some parts of identity come from our families, traditions, cultures, talents, experiences, and the ways we express ourselves,” read a sign on the wall.

Congratulations to our students and teachers on a joyous, meaningful exhibition showcasing their hard work and celebrating what they’ve learned!

The Ultimate Monster Mash!

Er, mashup! An artistic collaboration between our High School art students and 1st graders has been in the works for the past couple of months, and has finally come to life!

LS art teachers Ashely Ortiz and Jenn Heffernan, and HS art teacher and department chair, Sarah Riley, came together with an idea in which 1st graders drew pictures of monsters, and then passed them along to high school artists who then used their sketches to create 3-D sculpture versions.

This Tuesday our high school students and first graders met in person and exchanged their co-inspired art!

Last week, at our 1st Grade Authors Brunch, our students in the 1st grade read their original books aloud to families and faculty!

The culmination of a year in Writers’ Workshop, each book represents months of hard work and offers imaginative glimpses into the lives and minds of our six- and seven-year-olds.

Along the way, students explored personal narratives, character and setting development, sequencing, vivid details and adjectives, hooks and leads, onomatopoeia, strong closing sentences, and supporting illustrations!
