We are excited to announce Maret's 2026 Graduation Speaker, Kwame Alexander! Mr. Alexander is a #1 New York Times bestselling author of 45 books, including ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ณ๐ฐ๐ด๐ด๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ, his Newbery Medal-winning novel turned Emmyยฎ Award-winning Disney+ TV series. He is also the co-creator and executive producer of the Emmy-nominated ๐๐ค๐ฐ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ช๐ค ๐๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ด๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐๐ช๐ด ๐๐ข๐ณ๐ฏ๐บ๐ข๐ณ๐ฅ ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ and ๐๐ค๐ฐ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐ช๐ค ๐๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ด๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ: ๐๐ข๐ป๐ป๐บ ๐๐ข๐ฎ๐ด, a PBS KIDS special and series of shorts produced by GBH Kids based on his beloved children's book of the same name. He regularly shares his passion for literacy, books and the craft of writing around the world, including Ghana, West Africa, where he opened the Barbara E. Alexander Memorial Library and Health Clinic. A recipient of the 2025 NAACP Image Award, Kwame is a 2026 Sine 250+ Fellow at American University and the founder of the literacy non-profit One Word at a Time. Mr. Alexander is also the proud parent of a member of the Class of 2026. We can't wait to welcome him to Maret's stage on Monday!

Middle schoolers end the year with grade-specific capstone projects. From American Experience projects in fifth and sixth grade that explore American history and family food traditions, to the seventh-grade Global Issues Day and the eighth-grade Climate Conferenceโstudents are researching, creating, and presenting their newfound knowledge!
