Beginning our coverage of Congressional actions on the FY27 budget, we’re tackling the House Appropriations Committee’s proposed budgets for NSF, NIST, and NASA. Mirroring last year’s proposal, the House appropriators are recommending difficult budget cuts for the agencies, while still being less harsh than the Trump Administration request.

Meet the faces advocating for and shaping the future of AI education! 🤖
Continuing our series highlighting our newly announced NSF NAIRR AI Education Fellows, this week we’re celebrating Elahe Javadi! 🌟
Elahe Javadi, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Information Systems in the School of Information Technology at Illinois State University. Her passion for research, curriculum development, and community outreach focuses on applied AI, robotics, and quantum computing. Through the NAIRR AI Education Fellowship, Javadi will collaborate with organizations across Central Illinois to expand access to AI education.
We’re inspired by her drive to collaborate in order to expand AI education!

As an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Texas, San Antonio, Taslima’s research focuses on accessibility and privacy for blind and low-vision individuals using AI technologies.

This new CRA-E event will bring together teaching-track faculty in computing at PhD-granting institutions for a full day of discussion, networking, and idea-sharing around:

Ananya Jana, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Marshall University, West Virginia. Her research lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence and computer vision, with a primary focus on medical imaging. She develops deep learning methods for disease assessment. Through the NAIRR AI Education Fellowship, Jana seeks to expand equitable access to AI research infrastructure and design hands-on, research-driven learning experiences that empower students to build, evaluate, and deploy responsible AI systems.
We’re inspired by her passion to make AI accessible to all!
