Nilltan John Pierre is a senior and Vice-President of Leadership Development at Charlotte Amalie High School. His aspiration is to become an electrician. For him to achieve that goal, after graduation Nilltan will complete two years in a trade school and another two years in a university and acquire a Bachelor’s degree. His long-term goal is owning a business that works on electrical wiring for cars. This will put the leadership skills he learned to use.

He remarked, “The National Student Leadership Academy (NSLA) event that we had the other week was truly a great experience for me and my peers from the Virgin Islands. The event had a lot of benefits and showed me new ideas that can help me with meeting my future goals”. The knowledge that Nilltan has gained affirms that being the leader really means you have to put the work to guide you and your peers in the right direction. The experience also taught him about networking and how far it can take you with people that you meet both in person and online. Networking can help build relationships that are beneficial towards where you are going, and it can bring you and the individuals many opportunities. Ultimately, Nilltan realized that these leadership skills will play a pivotal role in his journey, helping him make informed decisions and solve problems efficiently. NSLA has been instrumental in shaping his understanding of leadership, and Nilltan confident that these skills will propel him towards success.

Aniyah Rodriguez is a senior and President of Leadership Development at Ivanna Eudora Kean High School. She remarks that being in the JAG-VI program has been one of the best decisions she have made while in high school. She believes JAG-VI provides a solid foundation for entering the workforce and helps her understand how she can be the ideal interviewee and employee. After graduating, Aniyah plans to attend the University of the Virgin Islands for two years, and then later attend North Carolina State University (NCSU) to become a Pediatrician and open a children’s hospital. Aniyah is passionate about helping children and believes serving them is her purpose in life.

Attending the National Student Leadership Academy event allowed Aniyah to learn about different aspects of the workforce, and how to be a leader that everyone can look up to. She reflected, “It was breathtaking to see a large amount of JAG students attending the event.” Within the week, Aniyah was able to form friendships where she could talk about JAG and inspire her new friends to become the best leaders they can be. Overall, Aniyah truly enjoyed the experience and formed the foundation to not only be a great JAG student, but to use the training for the rest of her life.
