To be completely honest with you, since I’m not big on history, I don’t remember much knowledge about past events even though I had been taught a lot in school. Having said that, I do remember one special occasion called Vietnamese Independence Day. So I’m going to talk about it.

The event occurred on 2nd September. On that day, thousands of people flocked to the Ba Dinh square to listen to Ho Chi Minh – the most prominent Vietnamese president read the Proclamation of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. Everyone was over the moon to witness the milestone in Vietnam history when we could eventually fight off the invaders to gain our precious freedom after years of being colonized. Needless to say, from that point on, this day has become one of the biggest Vietnamese national holidays when all citizens have a day off to commemorate the victory. I remember crying tears of joy when I first watched the documentary of what happened on that day in one of my history lessons back in secondary school. I feel grateful as well as proud as hadn’t it been for our ancestors' patriotism and perseverance, we wouldn’t have a chance to live in such a peaceful world as today.
