The Chief Mentor💚
The difficulty of setting an example has been made much more challenging by the changing value systems in recent times. Internationalisation has a major impact on the way people think and interact with one another. Many norms have lost their relevance since the seventies. This manifests concretely in the loss of what is acceptable and what not. Values such as obedience, discipline, patriotism, religion, and responsibility to protect national property and society have been eroded to such an extent that it largely lost its binding power.
In contrast, values such as individuality, autonomy, equal rights, equal opportunities, group solidarity, humaneness, tolerance and freedom, gained in strength. These changes in value systems should be considered and can probably lead to confusion about the sense of life and uncertainty, and in extreme cases even loss of orientation. Leaders in learning and development need to know this because it has a direct impact on the way in which people behave and how they should be treated.
