ON THIS DAY – 20 JUNE 1946

Today we commemorate a remarkable milestone in the history of Durban High School — 80 years since the establishment of the Durban High School & Old Boys’ Memorial Trust.

Established on 20 June 1946, the Trust was founded through the vision and generosity of the DHS community to honour those who served and to support the future growth and development of the school.

The founding trustees included Headmaster Colonel “Betsy” Martin, master, Mr. Bill Payn, Old Boy Mr. Leo Grice, and elected representatives of the Old Boys’ Club.

Their foresight created a legacy that continues to benefit generations of DHS boys and Old Boys.

Eighty years later, that spirit of service, stewardship and brotherhood remains as strong as ever. Today, that organization is known as the DHS Foundation Trust, but its roots remain firmly anchored in the vision established by Colonel “Betsy” Martin, Mr. Bill Payn, Mr. Leo Grice and their fellow trustees on that historic day in 1946.

The DHS Old Boys community wishes Phepsi Buthelezi (OB 2017) and the South Africa A team all the very best for their match against Zimbabwe on Saturday, 20 June at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Phepsi continues to make the DHS family proud, and we know he and his teammates will represent South Africa with passion and pride.

🏌️‍♂️ DANIEL BENNETT (OB 2022) BREAKS INTO THE WORLD TOP 10! 🌍

The DHS Old Boys community is incredibly proud to congratulate Daniel Bennett (OB 2022) on achieving a remarkable milestone in his golfing career.

Following his outstanding performances on the international stage, including winning the prestigious Eisenhower Team Championship alongside fellow South African Christiaan Maas in 2025, Daniel has climbed to No. 10 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) as of 17 June 2026.

This achievement marks a new career-high ranking for Daniel, improving on his previous best of No. 14 in the world, and places him among the elite amateur golfers globally.

Congratulations, Daniel.
