On this Youth Day, we commemorate the courage and sacrifice of the young people of 16 June 1976, whose stand for equal education helped shape our democracy.

Today we honour their legacy by recognizing the power, potential, and responsibility of the youth in building our nation. Your ideas, energy, and resilience are vital to addressing the challenges we face and creating a future grounded in justice, opportunity, and dignity for all.

May we continue to invest in education, skills, and platforms that enable young people to lead and thrive. To the youth of South Africa: your voice matters, your dreams are valid, and your contribution is indispensable.

Today we had the opportunity to visit a Ikusasalethu Secondary School in Soweto to motivate and encourage learners as they prepare for the upcoming exam season.

It was truly inspiring to engage with so many ambitious young minds, share words of encouragement, and assist learners with university and bursary applications. Seeing their eagerness to learn, grow, and plan for their future was incredibly rewarding.

Small moments of guidance can make a lasting impact, and I’m grateful to have been part of an initiative that empowers the next generation to believe in themselves and their potential.
