Live from SAFTU,COSATU,FEDUSA & NACTU press conference on SIU report into the UIF and current migration crisis in South Africa.
Four Federations - SAFTU, COSATU, FEDUSA & NACTU - address a press conference on SIU report into the UIF & the current migration crisis.
One of the most powerful messages to emerge from today’s 50th Commemoration of the 1976 Soweto Uprising came from young people themselves, speaking directly to other young people about one of the greatest social crises of our time: the pandemic of alcohol and drug abuse.
The youth of 1976 confronted an oppressive apartheid state and sacrificed their lives for freedom, dignity and a better future. Today’s generation faces different but equally destructive enemies — unemployment, poverty, inequality, hopelessness, gangsterism, drugs and alcohol abuse.
Listen, muntu omusha!
Do not allow drugs and alcohol to steal your dreams, your health, your education, your future and your life. Those who profit from addiction are not your friends. They are destroying families, communities and an entire generation.
The struggle of 1976 was about liberation. The struggle of 2026 must also be about liberating ourselves from the chains of substance abuse, violence, crime, gender-based violence and all forms of self-destruction.
Listen, muntu omusha:
* Say no to drugs.
* Say no to alcohol abuse.
* Say no to gangsterism and violence.
* Stay in school, pursue skills and knowledge.
* Organise, participate and build your community.
* Defend the values of equality, non-racialism, non-sexism and human dignity.
The youth of 1976 passed the torch to you.
Do not let it be extinguished by drugs and alcohol. Carry it forward and build the South Africa they dreamed of. ✊🏿🇿🇦
