Just a week ago, every study space seemed to be occupied.
Today, the library is noticeably quieter as many students finish their exams and head off for a well-deserved break.
To everyone who has completed their exams: congratulations. To those still writing: you've got this! ๐ช๐

Guest Speaker: Professor Francesco Petruccione, Professor of Quantum Computing and Pro Vice-Chancellor: Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Technologies
As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into research, one message stood out at Stellenbosch University Library's Research Week: technology should enhance, not replace, human judgement.
At the launch of Research Week 2026, experts explored the opportunities and challenges presented by AI and quantum technologies, emphasising the importance of critical thinking, ethical scholarship and collaboration in the evolving research landscape.

Hosted by Ms Ellen Tise, Senior Director: Library and Information Services and Dr Basil Brown, President of the New Unity Movement (NUM), the event celebrated the introduction of this important archival collection to researchers and the public.
The Unity Movement Collection was donated to the Library in June 2023, with the project to sort and catalogue the extensive collection beginning in March 2024. The collection reflects the history and legacy of the New Unity Movement (NUM) and the Non-European Unity Movement (NEUM), organisations committed to non-racialism, human rights, and resistance to apartheid.
The programme featured a welcome by Prof Nico Koopman, a keynote address by Dr Basil Brown, and a panel discussion. The event also included readings and an exhibition of archival material from the collection.
