For Stellenbosch University alumna Anneline Arries, language is more than a subject, it is a way to connect, understand different cultures and help others find their voice.
After completing a BA in Language and Culture, a BA Honours in Translation and a PGCE at Stellenbosch University, Anneline is working across language and education to support young learners in the classroom. Along the way, she has worked as an interpreter, editor and translator and has had several poems published in the Afrikaans anthology Penseel.
“Know that you can make a difference, even in the smallest things you do. Be authentic, be YOU in the classroom, and remember that language is one of those wonderful tools that helps us connect.”

Vir Anneline Arries, ʼn alumna van die Universiteit Stellenbosch (US), was taal nog altyd meer as net 'n vak. Dis 'n manier om in verbinding te tree, om verskillende kulture te verstaan, en om jongmense 'n stem te gee.
Nadat sy 'n BA in Taal en Kultuur, 'n BA Honneurs in Vertaling en 'n PGCE aan die Universiteit Stellenbosch voltooi het, werk Anneline oor taal en onderwys om jong leerders in die klaskamer te ondersteun. From agriculture and artificial intelligence to media, the arts, student success, and societal impact, these engagements highlighted the important role our alumni and partners play in shaping the future alongside the University.
More than a series of events, it was an opportunity to strengthen relationships, exchange ideas, and celebrate the impact of the broader Matie network.
