This year, on , we celebrate the extraordinary individuals in our Youth Hub.

Each young member that walks through our doors has their own unique dreams, passions, and opinions, and it is our job to support them while they shape them with confidence and fortitude.

The Lynedoch Youth Hub works to catalyze transformative change in the lives of the youth in Lynedoch by integrating healing and imagination as foundational practices. By honouring each person’s lived experience and offering a safe space with intention, participants can grow in agency, hope, joy, and ukama, becoming changemakers for self, community, and the environment.

We are grateful for partnerships such as the one with Rijk Zwaan, that makes our day-to-day work on the ground possible. Our garden and grounds team have been kitted out with new equipment and work wear, all made possible by the Rijk Zwaan team.

“How can we create a feeding scheme that looks radically different from what Africa’s been used to?” asks Rico Wessels, Nourish Programme Coordinator.

Imagination shapes our approach to food and nutrition, which in turn creates experiences and food practices that strengthen wellbeing, belonging, cultural connection and local innovation.

Contact the Nourish team at [email protected] or 021 881 2500 for venue booking, events and catering.

“Rather than seeing our relationships as hierarchical and competitive, can soil horizons inform us about how to build relationships horizontally and cooperatively?” huu nguyen, from Soil Loss is Soul Loss

Twenty five years ago, we imagined creating a socially just and transformative space that nurtured nature and people. It was intended to be a living example of what a community could be, and act as inspiration for others to imagine what they could create or be a part of themselves.

Today, as we recognise , we stand in the realisation of this dream. Once upon a time we thought about soul, soil and society and how they connected. Based on this interconnectivity we began our journey of restoring our small part of the Lynedoch Valley. Take a look at what has unfolded...

The Sustainability Institute’s Nourish Programme aims to reconnect people with food, land, and each other. It also demonstrates what a more just and regenerative food future can look like in practice.

The school programme, the Green Café and all of our venues, client events and catering are run by the Nourish team.

Nothing says autumn like bursts of orange, yellow and red in nature. The campus is beautifully displaying it's colours, soaking up the warmth of the sun and radiating life giving energy.

It’s , and we want to eat food that makes a positive impact and supports a healthy food system! We aim to do this in practical, tangible ways through the implementation of ten food principles.

In the video, our Nourish Programme coordinator, Rico Wessels, provides an overview of the philosophy behind these principles, including:

1. Being driven by what the at Spier Wine Farm and our food garden can provide.
2. Supporting agro-ecological and small scale producers to promote soil regeneration.
3. Staying away from imported goods as far as possible to minimise our carbon footprint and to support the local economy.
4. Transparency about provenance.
5. Using free range and pasture-reared meat, eggs and dairy products.
6. Using seasonal produce.
7. The integration of indigenous plants, herbs and leafy greens.
8. Using historical African seeds and grains.
9. Staying away from GMO foods as much as possible.
10. Promoting well-being through food while maintaining affordable prices.
