The Cape Wine Auction has raised over R152.8 million for education in the Cape Winelands.

The Cape Wine Auction is regarded as one of the most significant international wine charity auctions ever conceived. It unites the industry around a single goal of raising money for education. In its 10-year history, the auction has raised over R135 million, with 100% of the proceeds managed by The Cape Wine Auction Trust and distributed amongst carefully selected beneficiaries.

A reminder of why this work continues.

Through the voices of Trust beneficiaries, one belief comes through clearly: when a child is educated, the impact reaches far beyond the individual.

It reaches families, communities, and a nation's future.

Stewardship means staying committed to that future supporting the programmes and partners that help children move forward with confidence, dignity, and possibility.

Stewardship means not just starting programmes, but improving them.

In 2024, the Trust’s impact reporting recorded 1,928 literacy and numeracy learners across six schools, supported by 194 computers.

By 2025, digital literacy support had reached 8,000 learners across 23 schools and after-school centres.

At one partner school, the overall pass rate rose from 92.8% in 2023 to 94.7% in 2024.

These statistics are evidence of what continuity makes possible.

There is a particular kind of satisfaction that comes from what you are able to give.

For the Cape Wine Auction Trust, this pleasure is measured in education, opportunity, and children across the Cape Winelands who are given a stronger foundation for the future.

What began as a commitment to giving has now seen more than R152.8 million directed toward education since inception.

This is stewardship in practice.

A number on its own does not tell the full story.

When we say 100% of auction proceeds reach our partner organisations, we mean something practical.

It means funded education partners working across communities from Stellenbosch to Bonnievale, early childhood development, psychosocial support, digital literacy, school nutrition, and after-school care.

Each initiative responds to a documented barrier between a child and their potential. The funds are one part of the picture.

The ongoing relationships, review, and stewardship that protect how they are used are the other.

Stewardship is what happens after funding is received.

Through partner organisations such as Pebbles Project, support reaches children like Liam in practical, daily ways through early learning, nutrition, health checks, wellness monitoring, and play.

This is what sustained support looks like in practice.

An auction raises funds. Stewardship builds something that lasts.

The Cape Wine Auction Trust looks beyond Auction day, towards what continues years later: programmes still running, children still supported, and partner organisations strengthened through consistent, long-term commitment.

One year of funding may be a brick. Long-term partnership is what builds the wall.

“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken adults.”

In this reflection, Sue Wildish of The Lunchbox Fund highlights the importance of early and sustained support for children.

Through the Cape Wine Auction Trust’s network of partners, this work continues across the Cape Winelands, with organisations focused on meeting growing needs, from nutrition to access and opportunity.
