ZAMMSA, Partners to Improve Condom Stock Management

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) says a healthy youth population remains critical for national development.

UNFPA Country Representative Seth Broekman emphasized that sustainable empowerment cannot be achieved if young people’s health and wellbeing are compromised. He said strengthening condom stock management systems at youth resource centres is vital to improving sexual and reproductive health outcomes and reducing new HIV infections among young people.

Mr. Broekman was speaking in Lusaka during the Integrated Capacity Building and Training Meeting on Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for condom stock management.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe, in a speech read on his behalf by Director of Youth Mable Nedziwe, said strengthening condom stock management systems is key to improving HIV prevention services and promoting healthy lifestyles among young people.

Mr. Chileshe stressed the need for a unified SOP to guide ordering, distribution, reporting, and monitoring of condom stocks across Youth Resource Centres and District AIDS Coordinating offices.

The three‑day training aims to strengthen collaboration among District AIDS Coordinating Advisors, Youth Resource Centre managers, and the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) in improving the ordering, receiving, and reporting of condom stocks.
