When does s sound like z?
S often says /z/ when it comes after a voiced sound.
A voiced sound is a sound that makes your vocal cords vibrate.
Examples:
dogs → /dogz/ (g is voiced)
bags → /bagz/ (g is voiced)
runs → /runz/ (n is voiced)
plays → /playz/ (y is voiced)
S can also sound like /z/ when it is between two vowel sounds.
Examples:
music → /myoo-zik/
roses → /roh-ziz/
easy → /ee-zee/
