Falcon Foundation
- Sic Itur Ad Astra -

@FalconCollege Loyalty to the College and to each other continues to be a strong bond wherever these young men end up.'

'The school motto comes from the words of Publius Vergilius Marote (70-19BC) a classical Roman poet who wrote: “nova virtute, puer; sic itur ad astra” which translates: Look to your new-found courage, young man, for that is the way to the stars. The College runs on a hierarchical system – which we are sure leads to well rounded young men, who have respect for the system while maintaining originality and individualism.

Dear Old Boys

At this time, one thing that is very difficult for a school leaver is knowing where and what they would like to do with their lives.

I would like to compile a list of professions that Falconians have got into. It would then be a wonderful thing if you would be happy for a present Falcon pupil to contact you and get advice.

This would mean that you could give back directly by sharing with pupils what is involved in your profession; which places are best to train for that specific profession and if there would be any chance of a little work experience in that line.

I believe that giving a present Falcon Pupil a foot up and helping in this way would be a great initiative and opportunity for them. The world really is all about networking and this would give current pupils a head start.

If you are at all willing, please give us the details of what profession you are in and if you would be prepared to talk to a Falcon pupil. It really would be most appreciated!

Please send replies to [email protected].

Kind Regards

Reg Querl
Former Headmaster

Dear all,

I am very sorry to report the untimely passing of Founder Student (Oates) and long-time Board Member, Warwick Hale, over the past weekend. The following an an excerpt from an email written by Andy Laing to the Board this morning:

Warwick was a founder pupil of Falcon College, and officiated at the commemoration of the Sundial outside the Hall on the occasion of our 40th Anniversary in 1994. By then, he was already an ‘elder statesman’ on the Board. His wise and experienced counsel steered many an issue for many a year.

Warwick captured everything good in the old fashioned farming stock of this country. He really was the salt of the earth. His word was his bond. And on top of that, he was the most exceptionally decent guy one could ever hope to meet. His untimely passing is a massive blow to those who knew him, and of course to his loving family. Sue is the most amazing, caring and gentle person, indeed the most fitting partner, loving wife and best friend to Warwick for so many years.

We extend our deepest condolences to Sue and to their family.

Kind regards,

Dave van Wyk
Headmaster

Condolence notice: Frank Reed (Falcon staff 1967-81)

Condolence notice: Frank Reed (staff 1967-81)

It is with great sadness that we inform the Falcon College Community of the passing of Frank Reed in the early hours of 24 December. Frank was a highly respected and well-loved member of Staff from 1967 to April 1981 as a Mathematics and Geography teacher, Tredgold Housemaster, sports coach and introducer of the Beekeeping Club. Frank left teaching in 1981 to join the family farm in Mashonaland and later retired to Harare. We extend our condolences to Pauline as well as to Alastair (GG 1985), Philip (GG 1987) and Fiona and their families.
May they find peace in the knowledge that Frank lived his life well and had a positive impact on so many individuals.
