During Refugee Week, Homebush Boys High School recognised the contributions and experiences of refugees through a range of activities.

A cake and muffin stall, supported by generous donations from staff and parents, raised over $500 for the Asylum Seekers Centre. Students enthusiastically helped run the fundraiser and promote awareness throughout the week.

Our Refugee Week assembly featured guest speaker Elijah Buol, who shared insights into the challenges faced by people seeking asylum in Australia and the vital support provided by the Asylum Seekers Centre.

Year 12 Prefects Nomaan and Hayden reminded students of the importance of values such as respect, empathy, inclusion and kindness in creating a welcoming school community.

To reflect this year's theme, One Million Stories, students from the SRC and Interact Club created posters celebrating notable Australians who arrived as refugees. These works are now on display in the library.

Thank you to all students, staff and families who supported this meaningful week.

A group of Year 8 students recently had the wonderful opportunity to visit the RSPCA and take part in its Youth and Animal Program, where they engaged in animal welfare activities and learned about the important role the organisation plays in protecting and caring for animals.

The visit provided valuable insights into responsible pet ownership, animal care, and the efforts involved in animal rescue and rehabilitation. It was an inspiring experience that fostered empathy and awareness among our students, helping them understand how they can contribute to making a positive difference in the community.

On Thursday, 4th June, our Year 9 Visual Design students visited IKEA as part of their studies in Interior Architecture. Students explored a variety of interior spaces, investigating how designers use colour, layout, materials, and furnishings to create functional and visually appealing environments. The excursion provided valuable inspiration for their upcoming project, where they will design and construct a miniature interior model.

Four senior executives from our Interact Club, accompanied by Ms Anton, had the privilege of attending the Strathfield Rotary Club meeting on Wednesday, 3 June.

The evening featured special guest speaker Professor Elizabeth Thurbon, Deputy Head of School, Director of Research, and Professor of International Political Economy at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Professor Thurbon also serves on the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council for Equitable Transition (2025–2026).

Students gained valuable insights into renewable energy, government approaches to energy transition, and the challenges and opportunities involved in creating a more sustainable future. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn directly from a leading expert who is passionate about these important global issues.

The evening also brought together executive members from the Meriden Interact Club, providing an excellent opportunity for students to connect, exchange ideas, and strengthen relationships across schools.

It was an inspiring and informative evening, and we would like to sincerely thank Strathfield Rotary for providing our students with this wonderful opportunity.

A spontaneous fitness session brought plenty of energy and laughter to the Student Support Officer's office this week when a group of Year 10 boys decided to put themselves to the test with our 12-sided workout fitness dice ball! Each roll revealed a different exercise challenge, with students eagerly taking on push-ups, squats, lunges and more. What started as an everyday visit, quickly turned into an on the spot workout session. This demonstrated the well-being opportunities, support and programs available and run at HBHS. It was fantastic to see students supporting one another and having fun while staying active. Well done to all the boys who gave it a go!
